"Dear Sir [addressed to the Principal]

I recently supervised eight NCEA exams at TBC.

I was most impressed with the good manners and co-operative attitudes of the boys. They were unfailingly polite, and many thanked us as they left. There is clearly a well-established culture of courtesy and respect for others among your senior students.

I congratulate you for what is obviously the result of excellent leadership and example.

Kind regards"

Phone call received an elderly man who lives on 15th Avenue. A rubbish bag was run over by a truck and instead of following what all of the other boys did, and walk past and ignore it, a young boy stopped and started to clean it up. He had a Chemistry tray and gloves which he wore to do it. Pat went out and took brooms etc to help him and they got it done. He was very impressed with this young man but unfortunately didn't get his name.

"Dear Principal,

I just wanted to send you my congratulations on the behaviour of some of your students.

I travelled by bus from the hospital back to my home in Papamoa today at the time your students were leaving school.

I was very impressed with the lovely manners displayed as they indicated I should board and later leave each bus ahead of them, as well as how they thanked the drivers on leaving the bus. It is a pleasure to see our younger generation showing such consideration for others.

Kind regards"

"Dear Mr. Mangan,

Yesterday afternoon, Thursday 20 February, I experienced a situation involving one of your young men which physically brought me to tears.

I was heading to my place of employment to at 3.20 yesterday afternoon, and was at the 11th Avenue intersection.

An elderly lady with a walker was crossing the road, and the lights went green for left turning traffic into 11th Avenue from Cameron Road. The elderly lady was still in the middle of the road.

One of your stellar young men, road his bike in front of the truck/ute that was about to turn into this woman, put out his arm and stopped the driver, then preceeded to get off his bike and assist the elderly woman to safety.

I felt it necessary to bring this to your attention as yet another example of the wonderful young men your are cultivating at your school.

He is truly an inspiration.

Kind regards"

A lady called to say that she catches the Bay Hopper bus regularly, and the last couple of times, the bus was very full and boys stood and offered her a seat. She was very impressed with them and the manners the boys are being taught at the school.
